Nobody plans for this. We help you get it right.
We are a local senior placement agency in Long Beach. We help families find assisted living, memory care and board and care homes that match your parent's care needs, your budget, and how often you want to visit. We know these homes, we come to the tours, and it costs your family nothing.
Tell us the discharge date when you call and we will work backwards from it. A name and a number is enough to start.

How this actually goes
Nobody plans for this. Most families reach us with a discharge date already set, a list of names they cannot rank, and a sibling on speakerphone in another state.
Tell us what happened
Most of these calls start in a hospital corridor, or in a parent's kitchen the day after a fall. We need three things from you: what care is needed, which part of town works, and how many days you actually have.
We cut the list down out loud
A discharge planner hands you a photocopied sheet with no order to it. We go through it with you and say which homes have a bed this week, which will take your father as he is right now, and which we would not use ourselves.
You visit two, not ten
For a six bed house that means standing in the living room on a weekday afternoon, seeing who is awake and who is doing the cooking. We come with you and ask the questions that are awkward to ask about your own mother.

Which of these you actually need
Board and care, assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing get used as if they are the same thing. They are four different licences with four different staffing rules, and choosing the wrong one means moving your parent a second time, which is the one thing everybody is trying to avoid. Start with whichever line below sounds closest.

Where the homes actually are
Supply in this city is lopsided, and it is better to know that before you promise your father he can stay in his own neighbourhood. Here is every licensed home the state lists inside Long Beach, sorted by ZIP code.
Long Beach is also not an island. Cross the line into Carson, Lakewood, Cerritos or Norwalk and the field opens up: 159 licensed homes across 10 cities in the Gateway Cities, holding 4,328 licensed beds between them. Counting by city, that is Carson 28, Cerritos 21, Norwalk 18, Lakewood 12, Downey 11, Bellflower 9, Compton 7, Artesia 2, Paramount 1.
We did not pick any of these and we are not paid to list them. It is simply what exists, which is where a search should start.

Why local matters more than it sounds
A national website can read you the same list. What it cannot tell you is that the six bed home on a cul-de-sac in Los Altos has an owner who sleeps there, that the place off Atlantic fills its openings before they are ever advertised, or that the home you liked in Bixby Knolls quietly does not do two person transfers.
We work the same few square miles every week. We know which homes near Long Beach Memorial will take someone straight off a discharge unit, which ones want a week of notice, and which owners answer their own phone on a Saturday.
There is never a cost to your family. Communities pay us when a placement works out. That gives us an obvious reason to want you to move someone, and the only honest answer to it is this: we turn down homes regularly, and we will say so plainly when the right call is a caregiver at home rather than a move at all.
- Homes with a real opening this week, not a brochure
- Which of the 11 larger communities price care in tiers, and what moves someone up a tier
- Veterans benefits, which come up constantly in a city that built and berthed ships
- A straight answer when the right move is no move
